During my 20-year+ career, I have worked in several research-, think-tank- and advisory organisations as advisor in the fields of energy, climate and resource policies. Organisations I have worked for include the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency PBL and the Netherlands Institute for International Relations Clingendael and several consultancies. Before starting my career, I received an education at the universities of Leiden (M.Sc in Chemistry), Cambridge (M.Phil in Environment and Development) and Amsterdam (PhD in Environmental Sciences).
My main research interests lay with the political economy, organisation and transformation of the international energy sector, as well as with steering mechanisms for effective climate, resources and sustainable development policies in general. Starting from those interests, and the ambition to contribute to major improvements in these fields, I have researched the role of business, governments, multilateral organisations and civil society for many years – in the Netherlands, Europe and globally.
As a project manager and senior expert, I have worked on many international and national projects in the field of energy, climate and resources. These were executed for a large variety of clients, including the European Commission, European Parliament, EU Joint Research Centre, OECD, IEA, International Trade Council of the United Nations, the Netherlands government, NGO’s, branch organisations, banks and Tata Steel. Besides that, I have been invited over the years as a speaker for conferences, workshops, lectures and presentations, and I have published a large number of policy reports, scientific articles, book contributions, newspaper articles, reviews and columns. Furthermore, I am fluent in Dutch (native), German (near-native) and English (excellent), and I have a good command of Spanish. In my spare time, I love to go jogging and to play tennis.
